Many of the decisions you make and actions you perform every day are a result of habits. In fact, habits account for about 40 percent of our behaviours on any given day, according to research undertaken at Duke University.
Therefore, your life today is largely attributable to your habits. How healthy, happy, and how successful you are – in many ways – are a result of your habits.
People who build better habits aren’t better people; they’re just using better strategies.
· They’re creating clarity instead of ambiguity.
· They’re designing environments that support or reinforce the behaviour they want.
· They’re linking their habits to their identity, not just to their state of motivation.
· They’re planning ahead, rather than reacting to moments.
· If/when they have a stumble or a setback, they have a plan on how to get back on track.
These are things that we can all do, and it doesn’t require a complete overhaul of your life.
In fact, the most sustainable changes in our behaviours come from small, consistent shifts that compound over time.
